Born on September 12, 1979, in Akron, Ohio, Sean Roger Flaherty was the son of Thomas and Christine Flaherty. He grew up in Stow, Ohio, and graduated from Stow-Munroe Falls High School in 1998. Sean’s passion for football led him to Walsh University, where he played as a tight end for four years. His leadership skills shone through as he captained the team to the 2001 Mid-States Football Association Mideast Championship, marking the university’s first national playoff appearance. In 2002, Sean earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Walsh University and later obtained his teaching certification from the University of Akron.
Teaching Career
Sean dedicated 18 years to teaching English and Language Arts. He began his teaching journey at Wadsworth High School before moving to Cuyahoga Falls High School. His commitment to education and his students was evident in his daily interactions, inspiring many to pursue their passions and strive for excellence.
Coaching Career
Over 22 years, Sean made significant contributions to high school football in Ohio. He started coaching at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, then at Wadsworth High School, where he played a pivotal role in leading the Grizzlies to the regional finals. As head coach at Cuyahoga Falls High School, Sean led the Black Tigers for four years. His coaching journey also included tenures at Medina Buckeye High School and Revere High School. In recent years, Sean returned to Stow-Munroe Falls High School, bringing his experience and passion back to his roots.
Personal Life
On December 20, 2008, Sean married Emily Howell, the love of his life. The couple resided in Stow, sharing their home with two beloved dogs, Bernie and Lucky. Sean’s family was central to his life; he is survived by his parents, Thomas and Christine Flaherty, and siblings Michael (Angela), Brian (Melissa), Patty, and Theresa (Josh) Trego. He was a cherished uncle to nieces Kaylie, Emme, Kate, Molly, Abigail, Meyah, Aurie, and goddaughter Bree; and nephews Danny, Dominic, Luke, and godson Ryan. His brother-in-law, Adam (Lindsey) Howell, also held a special place in his life.

Visitation for Sean was held on June 12, 2024, at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow. A Mass of Christian Burial took place on June 13, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church, followed by burial at Silver Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial donations be made to the Stow-Munroe Falls Boosters, honoring Sean’s enduring commitment to the community.
